At Medowie Community Preschool, we offer a dynamic, play-based curriculum designed to nurture each child’s development. Our approach encourages exploration, creativity, and learning through experience, ensuring children build the skills they need for a confident transition to school.
The cornerstone of our curriculum is creating a secure, positive environment where children feel safe and valued. By fostering a strong sense of Belonging, Being, and Becoming—as emphasized in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)—we help children develop a solid foundation for future learning and personal growth.
We believe children learn best through play. Our play-based learning opportunities are designed to encourage exploration, investigation, and creativity. Both indoor and outdoor environments are thoughtfully arranged to inspire active learning. Children are encouraged to:
~ Explore their surroundings
~ Engage in creative and imaginative play
~ Solve problems
~ Make independent choices
~ Develop social skills through interaction
These activities help children strengthen their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical abilities—critical skills for success in school and life.
We understand that parents and families play a crucial role in a child’s development. That’s why we value and encourage parent involvement in our curriculum. We provide multiple opportunities for parents to contribute, including:
~ Updates through our Storypark platform
~ Inviting parents to join special events, workshops, and classroom activities
~ Collaborative feedback to support the learning journey
Our preschool is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), which views early childhood as a time of Belonging, Being, and Becoming.
Our curriculum is designed to prepare children for the transition to school by developing a range of essential skills, including:
By nurturing these areas, we ensure that every child is equipped for success in the next stage of their learning journey.
At Medowie Community Preschool, we practice the Circle of Security, a relationship model that fosters a safe and respectful learning environment. By forming secure connections between educators, children, and families, we help children feel confident and ready to engage in learning. Research shows that when children feel secure, their capacity to learn is greatly enhanced—this principle is central to our curriculum.
All managers, staff and volunteers are committed to implementing the NSW Child Safe Standards. The safety, health and wellbeing of children is the number one priority of all staff and volunteers who understand children’s safety is a shared responsibility.
We have zero tolerance for any form of child abuse and are committed to acting in children’s best interests. Our policies and procedures support and inform this commitment, and our leaders and managers regularly review staff and volunteer practices and understanding, prioritising training or taking other relevant action if required.
